What you eat affects everything — your energy, your sleep, your symptoms, and your lab results. But most people can't remember what they had for lunch yesterday, let alone correlate it with how they felt a week later. JanusMed's Food Logging helps you track what you eat with the right level of detail for meaningful health insights. Access it from the dashboard card or the dedicated Food page in the navigation menu.
More Than Calorie Counting
JanusMed's food logging isn't about obsessive calorie tracking. It's designed to help you discover connections between what you eat and how you feel. The focus is on tagging foods with relevant characteristics — allergens, food types, quality indicators — so you can spot patterns. If you notice that symptoms flare up after meals tagged with gluten or dairy, you have actionable data to share with your doctor.
Quick Meal Logging
Logging a meal takes less than 30 seconds. Tap 'Log Meal' from the dashboard card or the Food page, select the meal type (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or Snack), write a brief description of what you ate, and select relevant tags. You don't need to weigh every ingredient or calculate macros — a simple description like 'Pasta with cream sauce, garlic bread' is enough. The tags do the heavy lifting for correlation analysis.
Log Meal Dialog
Select meal type, add a description, and choose from dozens of food tags for allergens, nutrients, and cooking methods.
Smart Food Tags
Tags are the secret to discovering food-health connections. JanusMed includes predefined tags organized by category: Allergens (gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts, soy, shellfish, fish, wheat, sesame), Nutrients (high sugar, high sodium, high fat, high fiber, high protein, low carb), Food Types (fried, spicy, raw, fermented, grilled, steamed), and Quality (processed, organic, whole grain, homemade, fast food, restaurant). Select all that apply to your meal.
Today's Summary Dashboard
The Food card on your dashboard and the Food page both show today's meal summary at a glance. See how many meals you've logged for each type — Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snack — with counts for each category. If you've added calorie information, the total calories for the day are displayed prominently. It's a quick way to track your daily eating patterns and ensure you're logging consistently.
Food Tracking Overview
View today's meal summary, calorie count, and browse your meal history with easy filtering.
Dedicated Food Page
Access the full Food page from the navigation menu for a comprehensive view of your eating history. The page features a History tab showing all your meals grouped by date, a Trends tab for analyzing patterns over time (coming soon), and flexible date range filters to view the last 7, 30, or 90 days of food entries. Each entry shows the meal type, time, description, tags, and calories.
Full History with Edit & Delete
Your complete food history is organized by date, with each day showing all meals and a daily calorie total. Need to fix a typo or update a meal you logged? Tap the edit button to modify any entry — change the description, update tags, or adjust nutrition info. Made an error? Delete entries you no longer need. Your food diary stays accurate and up-to-date.
Tracking Food Sensitivities
Suspect you might have a food sensitivity? Food logging with tags is the perfect way to gather evidence. Log every meal for 2-4 weeks while also tracking your symptoms in JanusMed. Over time, you'll see if symptoms correlate with specific tags. Maybe your headaches appear more often on days with 'high sugar' meals, or your digestive issues cluster around 'dairy' or 'gluten' tags. This data is invaluable for conversations with allergists or gastroenterologists.
Optional Nutrition Details
For those who want to track more detail, you can optionally add nutrition information: calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, sodium, and sugar. This is entirely optional — most users find that tags alone provide enough insight. But if you're working with a nutritionist, training for a specific goal, or managing a condition like diabetes where macros matter, the nutrition fields are there when you need them.
Correlate Diet with Lab Results
The real power of food logging emerges when you connect it with your lab results over time. Track your eating patterns in the weeks before your next blood test, then compare. Did your triglycerides improve during a period when you logged fewer 'fried' and 'high fat' meals? Did your glucose control worsen when 'high sugar' tags increased? These correlations help you understand which dietary changes actually matter for YOUR body.
Connect with Symptom Tracking
Food logging pairs perfectly with JanusMed's symptom tracking. Log your meals throughout the day, then log any symptoms you experience. Over time, you can analyze whether certain foods precede certain symptoms. This is especially valuable for digestive issues, migraines, skin conditions, and energy fluctuations.
Why Correlate Food with Health Data?
The true power of food logging emerges when you connect it with your symptoms and lab results. Here's what you can discover:
- Identify foods that trigger symptoms like headaches, bloating, or fatigue
- Track how dietary changes affect your cholesterol, glucose, or triglycerides
- Gather evidence of food sensitivities to share with your doctor
- Understand the relationship between meal quality and energy levels
- See patterns between eating habits and sleep quality
- Make informed decisions about which foods to avoid or include
Tips for Success
- Log meals right after eating — descriptions get vaguer with time
- Focus on tags rather than exact calories for the best insights
- Be honest about 'processed' and 'fast food' tags — they're valuable data points
- Track for at least 2-4 weeks to see meaningful patterns
- Use the History view to review past entries and spot patterns
- Review food logs alongside symptom entries to spot correlations
- Share food patterns with your doctor, especially for digestive or allergy concerns
